Can I enter the 300m Kid's Dash before event day?

If you are entering on the day, an entry form will be available from our registration area (times shown on schedule at bottom of each event home page)

How do I know my entry is confirmed?

Once you have completed your online entry form you will receive an automatic confirmation email. Please keep this as proof of entry.

If you do not receive this email please contact the Event Director at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Will I receive any other information before the event?

Yes you will. A comprehensive Competitor Briefing will be emailed to all competitors one week prior to the event and will also be available for download at www.weekendwarriorevents.com.au. The briefing will detail all the information you'll need to take part including the event schedule, information on the course and support services, travel as well as Tangalooma information and site maps.

Can I enter this event on event day?

If the cap of 400 competitors has not been reached - yes you can.

If you are on the island and wish to swim, entries will be available from Registration at the Rotunda building.

Are wetsuits permitted in this event?

Yes they are. Wetsuits are not typically allowed in many ocean swimming events however they are a great buoyancy aid that offer assistance to inexperienced or less confident ocean swimmers.

The decision to wear a wetsuit / speed suit / tri suit is entirely up to you. All swimmers are eligible for series points and category placings / prizes no matter what swim suit they are wearing.

I haven't done a lot of swimming in the ocean - is this event achievable for less experienced swimmers?

Most definitely. Each event in the Queensland Ocean Swim Series has options to cater for all abilities.

There is no hiding the fact that ocean swimming is more challenging than a length in your local pool, but we have taken a number of measures and designed the courses to be challenging but achievable for all abilities and fitness levels.

If you are new to ocean swimming, find a team mate and choose a distance that is comfortable for you, or take on the Tangalooma 1000 (1km)

Is there a time restriction to complete the event?

Yes there is. After 1 hour 15 minutes, any swimmer yet to round the final turn will be picked up by water safety personnel.

The time restriction will be enforced to ensure the safety of every swimmer.

Is travel included in my entry fee?

No it isn't. Entry into the event does not guarantee you travel - this needs to be booked seperately.

Please visit the 'Travel Info' page for instructions on booking your travel.

  • ACROSS: Departing Pinkenba: 7:30am

Where & When do we register?

When you land at Tangalooma, Weekend Warrior Events staff will direct you to registration at our event base (Rotunda building). This is only a short, 100m walk from the jetty.

Registration will be open from 8:30 - 10:00am so we recommend registering as soon as you arrive (approx 8:45am)

Is there a bag lock up available?

Yes there is. A free bag lock up will be available at registration.

How do I get to the start line?

All swimmers (Individuals & Teams) will walk to the start line opposite the wrecks.  This takes approx 20 mins.

Where is the course for the 300m Kid's Dash?

The Kid's Dash course is located at the Finish Area right outside the Resort. The Coolangatta & Caloundra Kid's courses will involve surf, however the Tangalooma course is very sheltered and water conditions are typically very calm.

Where does the Tangalooma 1000 Short Course start from?

The 1000m short course starts from the same location as the Teams Transition area, approximately 1km from the finish line and Resort.

Competitors in the short course will also walk to their start line.

I'm a team swimmer - will I have time to watch my team mate start and make it back to the transition area?

Yes you will but we are not able to offer transport to the start line for the second team swimmer. The walk to the start line will take you approx 15 minutes from the Safety Briefing so you will have time to get to the start and back to the transition before your teammate arrives.

Are wave starts or a mass start used?

Wave starts will only be used if the competitor cap of 400 swimmers is reached.  The waves will then be determined by the group you have nominated on your entry form (EG: Open or Weekend Warrior)

Will we have any free time for other activities after the event?

Yes you will.  Prize-giving will take place from 12:30 - 1:00pm so you will have around 3 hours until the ferry departs 4:00pm.  The Resort grounds are easy enough to walk around so it won't take you long to get to activities from the prize-giving.
