I haven't done a lot of swimming in the ocean - is this event achievable for less experienced swimmers? Most definitely. The Straddie 1000 course is located off Cylinder Beach, a very calm, clear stretch of water. Ocean swimming is obviously more challenging than a length in your local pool, but we have taken a number of measures and designed the course to be challenging but achievable for all abilities and fitness levels. Where & When do we register? Registration for the Straddie 1000 will take place from 1:00 - 2:30pm at the Straddie Beach Hotel. Is transport needed to get to the start? No it isn't. The Straddie 1000 start line is located on Cylinder Beach within walking distance of the Beach Hotel. Are wave starts used? No they aren't. A mass start will be used for the 2011 event.
The Straddie Salute Offroad Triathlon
I haven’t done a lot of open-water swimming but am reasonably swim-fit, will I manage 600m in the ocean? For sure. There’s no hiding the fact that an ocean swim is always going to be more challenging than the pool but we have designed the course to cater for all. The 600m counter-clockwise circuit will allow you to swim with the in-coming tide, rather than fight it and the distance is easily achievable for any fitness level.
I’ve only just started road cycling, will I be able to complete the mountain bike course with ease? Yes you will. We have avoided technical single track that only a skilled mountain biker will enjoy and have instead opted for a flowing combination of road, gravel and dirt trails that we’re sure all levels will enjoy but will still challenge the experienced rider. Most of my running has been on flat ground, does the Straddie run course have any terrain that only experienced athletes will handle? Not at all. The Straddie Salute run course couldn’t be better to accommodate all experience and fitness levels. The course has everything, from walking tracks and trails to beach sections, grass and 4WD tracks and is sure to keep you guessing until the end. How do I enter?
