Yes there are. There is no maximum age restriction, however competitors in any event must be over the following ages:

  • Short Course - 10 years & older
  • Long Course - 12 years & older

Competitors between the ages of 12 and 17 entering an event distance greater than 1.0km must also provide written confirmation from either a: a) coach; b) parent; or c) guardian that they believe the competitor is of a sufficient ability and fitness level to complete the event.

Competitors in the 300m Kid's Dash must be 10 years & older on the day of the event

ALL competitors aged 18 and under must have a parent or guardian present on event day.

Can I enter the 300m Kid's Dash before event day?

Yes you can. An entry form is available online where you can register your details (no payment – entry is free)

If you are entering on the day, an entry form will be available from our registration area (times shown on schedule at bottom of each event home page)

How do I know my entry is confirmed?

Once you have completed your online entry form you will receive an automatic confirmation email. Please keep this as proof of entry.

If you do not receive this email please contact the Event Director at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Will I receive any other information before the event?

Yes you will. A comprehensive Competitor Briefing will be emailed to all competitors one week prior to the event and will also be available for download at www.weekendwarriorevents.com.au. The briefing will detail all the information you'll need to take part including the event schedule, information on the course and support services as well as local Caloundra information and site maps.

Can I enter this event on event day?

Yes you can, however a late entry fee will apply for any entries received on the day.  The number of entries available on event day will be limited so we recommend you enter online to avoid missing out.

Are wetsuits permitted in this event?

Yes they are. Wetsuits are not typically allowed in many ocean swimming events however they are a great buoyancy aid that offer assistance to inexperienced or less confident ocean swimmers.

The decision to wear a wetsuit / speed suit / tri suit is entirely up to you. All swimmers are eligible for series points and category placings / prizes no matter what swim suit they are wearing.

I haven't done a lot of swimming in the ocean - is this event achievable for less experienced swimmers?

Most definitely. Each event in the Queensland Ocean Swim Series has options to cater for all abilities.

There is no hiding the fact that ocean swimming is more challenging than a length in your local pool, but we have taken a number of measures and designed the courses to be challenging but achievable for all abilities and fitness levels.

If you are new to ocean swimming, grab some mates and enter a Team in our 1500m Olympic Relay on Saturday or try our 1000m Short Course event on Sunday.

Where & When do we register?

Registration for Kings of the Coast will take place at Lions Park, Kings Beach from 7:00am.

Is there a bag lock up available?

Yes there is. A free bag lock up will be available at registration.

Where is the course for the 300m Kid’s Surf Dash?

The Kid’s Surf Dash course will start near the Finish Area on Kings Beach and involve one lap of a 300m course.

Does the new 1500m Olympic Relay involve a beach run?

Yes it does.  Individual competitors will complete a short beach run (50m) after lap #1 and lap #2 before re-entering the water to start the next lap.

I’m competing in the Relay as part of a team – where do I change my timing anklet?

A well marked team transition area will be set up near the beach running lane where team members can exchange timing anklets.

If we are competing as a pair, can I do the first and last lap and my team mate do the second lap only?

Yes you can.  Team members can complete a lap in any order they like, providing there is no more than three swimmers per team

Is transport provided from Kings Beach to the start line at Moffat Beach?

Yes it is. Shuttle buses will depart Kings Beach immediately after the Competitor Briefing and take all competitors to the start line at Moffat Beach.

Is transport provided from Kings Beach to the Team Transition at Shelley Beach?

Yes it is. Shuttle buses will depart Kings Beach immediately after the Competitor Briefing and take all team swimmers completing the second leg to the Teams Transition

Is transport needed to get to the Short Course (1000m) start?

No it isn't. The Short Course start line is located on Kings Beach within walking distance of the event base.

I have a friend / family member competing in the Short Course event - will I be able to watch them?

Yes you will. We have scheduled the races so that all competitors can watch either the finish or start and finish of the other event. This will allow freinds & family to compete while their supporters wait for them at the Long Course finish line before competing in their own event.

Please refer to the Event Schedule on the event page for timings.

I'm a team swimmer - will I have time to watch my team mate start and make it back to the transition area?

Yes you will, but we are not able to offer transport to the start line for the second team swimmer. If you have your own transport you are welcome to watch the start and make your own way back to the Teams Transition.

Is there a time restriction to complete the event?

Yes there is. After 2 hours, any swimmer yet to round the final turn will be picked up by water safety personnel.

The time restriction will be enforced to ensure the safety of every swimmer.

Are wave starts used?

Yes they are.  A mass start is a lot of fun, but we want to ensure that those around you on the start line are of a similar ability. In 2012 we're providing two options and you get to choose.

  • Open Wave - I'm confident I can complete the 3.8km course in under 1 hour
  • Weekend Warrior Wave - I'm more likely to complete the 3.8km course between 1 hour and the 2 hour cut off time.

**Wave starts do not apply for the 1000m short course event.

Is there an alternative 3.8km course if the weather is poor?

Yes there is.  If poor weather prevents us from staging the proposed course around the Caloundra Headland from Moffat Beach, an alternative Course will be offered at Kings Beach.  This course will consist of two laps of a 1.9km circuit with a short beach run (50-100m) in between.
